It is this time of year that seems to catch us all out. For that reason we maintain a reasonable stock of Warre bee hives for sale so you can receive your hive when wished, even with the sudden peak in bee hive sales.

To help ensure your bee hive requirements are met, options for- Pine or Western Red Cedar and number of boxes with inspection window, please do give us a call in advance and we will do our very best to help ensure your wishes can be met.

Any question reference bee hives for sales or about natural / warre beekeeping in general, please do not hesitate to call Tel. 01736 785777.

Best wishes, David

Who Killed the Honey Bee?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:07 pm

Yesterday, 15th February 2011, BBC4 showed a programme titled Who Killed the Honey Bee? For the next seven days it will also be available on iPlayer.

Well after watching it I expect you’ll be shocked: From factory farming, creating a super race of bee through selection, a man from DEFRA who’s only comment is the weather, a mass export market of bees from Australia to America…

If I had a rubber brick I would have thrown it at the TV: wake up world!

A little while ago I wrote a feature referencing beekeeping practices. It might be a while before we can influence the agrochemical industry, however our choice of beekeeping methodology we can make to day. Please do view our new white paper section, emails welcomed.

Very best regards, David

A Quick Update on the Bees

Filed under: Uncategorized — David @ 5:40 pm

Today I have been viewing our Warre bee hives, whilst having a late morning coffee break. The weather here in Cornwall has been 10, 12 deg C plus in the sun and our bees have been out flying. There has even been that lovely hum in the air and it’s been great to sit and watch for a short while.

The main food source seems to be the heather on our front path, and I am pleased to say the bees in both our North and South hives are returning with pollen.

This is an excellent indication that the queen is present and that she is properly laying some eggs, so good news!

I have also checked for stores in the inspection window and hefted the hives again; it’s a nervous time of year for stores.

Fingers crossed then for no more snow or heavy frosts so we might have an early, successful and abundant spring full of flowers.

Best regards, David
