“I would like to thank David & Melanie for their help in explaining the philosophy of Warre beekeeping, whilst at the same time being open and honest about the wide range of beekeeping views available to a new beekeeper.

Additionally it was a pleasure that you delivered our hives personally, they look great, I look forward to Spring as never before.”

Lovely tea and cakes in Henley

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:58 am
Last week I dropped of two new Warre beehives in Henley on Thames and was welcomed by lovely tea and cakes, perfect. Many thanks!

Whilst I had spoken to my customer, turned hosts many times on the phone (We don’t always want to ask questions on open forums) to help them source reading material from the internet and gain a broad range of beekeeping options before deciding on what is right for them, it still came as a surprise that I would drop the hives of personally.

I suppose this blog is saying don’t hold back on asking questions, and if I am travelling in your area we can always meet and chat over a cup of tea. Any questions please feel free to call 01736 785777. Regards David.

When you have to feed

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:39 pm

We didn’t want to feed our bees, wanting to stay as close as possible to the Warre principles, but in South West, Cornwall the bees are low on supplies, a mixture of early flowering and a wet August.

To avoid what looks like staving of our bees over the winter months we have decided to feed the bees sugar, however we are really now too late in the year, as the bees activity and therefore conversion of supplies into honey is now reduced.

Thanks again to the internet, www.biobees.com we have decided to use a dry sugar method using baker’s sugar and a top feeder that will sit on the hive during the winter and early autumn.

Please see the data provided by a gentleman called Larry Garrett, details of this method can also be found on www.warrebeek.com/dryfeeder.html

I am now building a new feeder; I also want a relatively cold winter and Spring to be on time.
